There was “wind coming from every which way,” mist so powerful it clouded his vision and an unfamiliar wire beneath him. “I feel like I’m on cloud nine right now,” Wallenda told reporters afterwards, which he performed before an estimated 112,000 people crowding the shores of both countries and an estimated 1 billion people who watched the live television broadcast. “I hope what I do and what I just did inspires people around the world to reach for the skies,” he said. He described a breathtaking view during the nighttime walk illuminated by spotlights that “compared to nothing.” “There was no way to focus on the movement of the cable,” said Wallenda. “If I looked down at the cable there was water moving everywhere. And if I looked up there was heavy mist blowing in front of my face. So it was a very unique, a weird sensation.”

He said he accomplished the feat through “a lot of praying, that’s for sure. But, you know, it’s all about the concentration, the focus, and the training.” “This is what dreams are made of, people,” said Wallenda, who wore a microphone for the broadcast, shortly after he stepped off from a platform on the American shore. Along the way, he calmly prayed aloud. After passing the halfway mark, Wallenda expressed fatigue. “I’m strained, I’m drained,” he said. “This is so physical, not only mental but physical.” Toward the end, as he neared the Canadian shore, Wallenda dropped to one knee and gestured to the crowd below.   He sprinted the remainding 15 feet, where his wife and three children waited.

“I am so blessed,” he said later. “How blessed I am to have the life that I have.” Wallenda said that at one point in the middle of the walk, he thought about his great-grandfather and the walks he had taken: “That’s what this is all about, paying tribute to my ancestors, and my hero, Karl Wallenda.”

Nikolas Wallenda, known as Nik Wallenda born January 24, 1979 is an American high wire artist, acrobat, and Guinness Book of Records holder. A direct descendant of Karl Wallenda (The Flying Wallendas), Nik is known for performing death-defying stunts on highwire without a safety net.

Nik Wallenda, born in Sarasota, Florida, began performing with his family at an early age. As the seventh generation of the Wallenda Family, he first began walking the wire at age 4 and had his first professional wire performance at 13. In 1998, while 19 years old, he participated in the re-creation of Karl Wallenda’s seven-person pyramid on the highwire in Detroit, Michigan by his father Terry and mother Delilah and decided to make a career of it.

In 1999, Wallenda proposed to his future wife Erendira, on bended knee on a wire 30 feet high during a performance in Montreal, Canada before a packed house of 18,000 people. Wallenda and his wife own and operate Wallendas Inc., a premier entertainment company that produces thrill shows around the world. They also have three children – Yanni, Amadaos and Evita.

According to Nik Wallenda, “The walk should take 35-40 minutes, but if the wire feels solid and the weather is good, I might spend more time out there,” Wallenda said Wednesday in front of reporters and television crews from more than 20 media outlets on both sides of the border. As he spoke, curious tourists snapped pictures and asked what was happening.

The exact time the 550-metre walk will take place is still yet to be decided. Wallenda said that will depend on the ongoing discussions with a national U.S. television network, believed to be ABC.  Nik also stated that the event will happen late in the evening however there is no specific time set yet, as that is part of the Network negotiations.

However, on its website promoting the event, the Niagara Parks Commission said the walk will start at 9 p.m.  There is talk that there will be Fireworks afterwards.

The direction of the walk also, is yet to be determined.
