The Niagara Region is bordered by Lakes Ontario and Erie and the Niagara River. It is a peninsula in
Southern Ontario that connects to the USA and the rest of Ontario. St. Catharines is the largest city in
this area, but Niagara Falls is well-known around the world as one of the 7 (natural) Wonders of the
Niagara is proud of its wealth of fertile land -the home of probably the best grapes and of course, wine
worldwide, as well as many varieties of fresh fruit. The Niagara Escarpment Biosphere runs through the
region and offers protection and ideal growing conditions for the growth of these fruits.
The average temperatures in June are 25°C daytime and 14°C overnight.
Brock University, hosting Quilt Canada in 2014, sits atop the Niagara Escarpment in St. Catharines. It is
one of the younger universities in Ontario and will be celebrating 50 years in 2014. Brock was named
after Sir Isaac Brock who played a major role in the War of 1812-14. The Brock campus is fairly
compact, which makes travel from one area to another easy. Brock offers accommodation in its
residences and meals that will be held in one of its dining areas.
