S.C.E.N.E. is a full-day event that hosts many local, national and international musical acts of allgenres. From ska to funk, metal to punk and allpoints in between, this event truly captures andcelebrates the spirit of independent music.All S.C.E.N.E. venues are located in close proximity ofeach other, within the downtown core. Attendees caneasily jump from show to show and maximize the14-hour S.C.E.N.E. experience!While maintaining a mandate that emphasizesregional and independent bands, 2009 was abenchmark year, attracting over 400 artistsubmissions from all around the world!
S.C.E.N.E. is the St. Catharines Event for New music Entertainment, a locally based independent music festival that started as a showcase for local talent. It has become one of the largest and most anticipated one-day, all-ages, independent music festivals in Canada! While still having a strong focus on Niagara-based independent acts, as the first S.C.E.N.E. did in 1995, the S.C.E.N.E. Festival has now exploded with numbers and diversity.
Last year’s 13th annual S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival drew over 6000 people, and attracted industry and media interest from throughout North America. This benchmark year featured 150 bands on 16 stages (including 2 outdoor stages) in 12 all-ages venues all within easy walking distance in St. Catharines’ downtown.
Genres accepted include: independent pop, hip-hop, reggae, ska, Celtic, country, folk, queer, punk, metal, funk, emo, and rock. Some artists are paid, some play for free. S.C.E.N.E. features local, national and international independent artists.
The S.C.E.N.E. Music Festival has provided a vital springboard for such artists as Billy Talent, Alexisonfire, Silverstein, City & Colour, Neverending White Lights, Shad, Ill Scarlet, Midway State, USS, the Mahones, Cancer Bats, Attack In Black, and Bedouin Soundclash. They have also featured international acts like New York City's Madball, and Del the Funky Homosapien.
