What will the weather be like when I visit Niagara Falls?

We are U.S. citizens and wish to enter Canada to see Niagara Falls from the Canadian side. Do we need passport books or will passport cards be sufficient for this purpose?

Yes you may use/purchase passport cards for all land travel. They can be used/purchased instead of the full passport.

Can I use my American cell phone when I come to Canada?

There are a few places very close to the border where you will be able to pick up American cell phone towers but beware as you will be bounced from tower to tower in this area. For the most part you will need to contact your service provider and add an international plan on for the length of your stay. This can easily be done online or through your providers app on your smart phone. If you do not set up an international plan please be sure to turn off roaming features for both phone and data as the roaming costs will be quite high.

Are the Falls lit / illuminated every night?

Yes they are lit up every night. There are certain dates that the Falls are lit in certain colors, but they are lit up nightly. More info on our Fireworks page.

Do I have to pay to see the Falls?

No. Niagara Falls is in a public location on Niagara Parks land. It can be accessed for free 24/7 all year around.The surrounding attractions however need to be paid for.

Do American Citizens need a passport to enter Niagara Falls, Ontario?

Yes. A passport is required for crossing the border into Canada. You can visit our BORDER CROSSING PAGE for more detailed informaiton. 

Do children need passports? I have read in several places that they only need a birth certificate?

That is correct.  Children ages 16 and under only require a birth certificate.  They may use a copied version of a birth certificate but it must be a notarized to be accepted at all ports of entry.

If I purchase Adventure Passes/Wonder Passes off your website, will they be sent to me by regular mail or email?

You will be sent a confirmation email with printable barcode vouchers that you will need to bring with you to a Niagara Parks Welcome Center.

Can you use US currency at the attractions at the Falls?

Yes. US currency is accepted at all our local attractions, restaurants and shops.

Where is the best place to view the Falls?

There are several great locations where you can view the falls. The falls can be viewed at any time of day or night for free at the Table Rock Welcome Centre. If you want a more up close and personal viewing experience you may want to purchase admission to a Hornblower Niagara Cruises or Journey Behind the Falls. If you want a unique aerial view you might be interested in booking a helicopter ride on, Niagara Helicopters, or National Helicopters or taking a ride to the top of the Skylon Tower.

How cold does winter get in Niagara Falls?

In the winter, the daily high temperatures in December, January and February range from 2° to -0.9° degrees Celsius (36° to 30° degrees Fahrenheit). Nightly temperatures range from -4.5° to -8.2° degrees Celsius (24° to 17° degrees Fahrenheit).

Are reservations required in advance or can I just drive up to Niagara and get a hotel?

Reservations are always recommended in advance.  Especially, on weekends, all major holidays and in the summer months.  If do not wish to make reservations in advance your choices may be limited in what would be available.

I am a current visitor visiting the USA. I do have a Visa for the USA. Can this also be used to enter Canada?

No.  You must apply for a separate Visa to enter Canada.  You may get information on visas to enter Canada, by contacting Citizenship and Immigration Canada.   Their web site has information on what you will need, and how to apply for a visa.  The web address for this is:

What is the best address to input into my GPS to get to the Falls?

6650 Niagara Parkway. (River Rd) Niagara Falls, ON L2G 0L0 will bring you right beside the Horseshoe Falls.

5400 Robinson St. Niagara Falls ON L2G 2A6 will bring you to Niagara Falls Tourism 1 block up from the falls and conveniently located to the Falls Tourist area and Clifton Hill.

Will Niagara Falls Attractions and Specialty Shops be open on Easter on Easter Weekend?

Yes.  Niagara Falls, Canada,  is a year round destination.  We are a tourism desination, therefore, any area that has been designated as tourism are exempt from closing on statutory holidays.

Any day trips to Niagara Falls from nearby cities?

Yes.  Many people travel from Toronto to Niagara Falls for the day.  They either travel by bus, train or rent a car for the day. They may also book tours from Toronto that would include a Niagara Day trip.

Does Niagara Falls ever freeze over?

Very unlikely. Although there is a record of the Horseshoe falls completly freezing over, but that was over 150 years ago! 

Can the Adventure Pass be used on multiple days?

Yes, the pass vouchers can be used on any number of days during the season. Each individual attraction ticket included within the pass is good for one entry into the attraction, except the WEGO which is valid for 2 full consecutive days of transportation starting from the first day of use.
