Every once in a while I’ll feature an historic Niagara Falls related photograph from my collection. This is an interesting one of the D’Oyly Carte Opera Company posing at the base of the Canadian Horseshoe Falls on January 23, 1927. They were visiting the Table Rock Scenic Tunnel (now Journey Behind the Falls) attraction. I can still remember those heavy black raincoats that were given to those who took the attraction. These black raincoats have been replaced today with light yellow bio-degradable take away coats.

This opera company mostly staged Gilbert and Sullivan shows in the U.K. They would occasionally travel to other parts of Europe and North America to put on shows.

The company started in the 1870’s and closed in 1982.
