Thanksgiving in Canada has been held since 1957 on the second Monday in October. It is a chance for families to get together over a harvest meal and give thanks for this harvest and other fortunes in the past year. For many, it is also a chance to take a short vacation before winter sets in.
Niagara Falls fills the bill when it comes to offering things to do this holiday weekend. There are plenty of free things to do. For example, the outdoor gardens around the falls are at their prime showing their brilliant colours for the last time this year. The trees in the Niagara gorge are just starting to show their brilliant autumn colours, especially in the Whirlpool area below the Niagara Spanish Aero Car attraction. Check out the roadside farmers stands filled with the bounty of the season found along the lower Niagara Parkway There are also free fireworks over the falls at 10 p.m. on Friday October 7th, Sunday October 9th and Thanksgiving Monday- October 10th.
