Drummond Hill Cemetery sits atop Drummond Hill in Niagara Falls on four acres of land. This historic cemetery at 6110 Lundy’s Lane is where one of the major battles of the War of 1812-14 took place in July of 1814. Hundreds of soldiers lost their lives at this battle and many are buried here.
This is Niagara Falls first burial grounds and John Burch was the first person to be interred here in 1799. A few others you’ll find buried are Laura Secord the heroine of the War of 1812-14 and Karel Soucek one of the people who intentionally went over Niagara Falls is a barrel. Many of the settlers of Niagara Falls are also buried here.
The City of Niagara Falls is offering tours of the cemetery led by a costumed guide on Friday and Saturday, Oct.16, 17, 23 and 24 at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m.
