The Niagara Parks Commission and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada (TIAC) are pleased to announce the selection of Niagara Parks ’Table Rock Centre as one of the host sites for the installation of an iconic Canada 150 3D Public Art Installation.

Inspired by the three-dimensional TORONTO sculpture located in Nathan Phillips Square, which was created for the 2015 Pan Am/Para Pan Games, TIAC received funding from the federal government to produce and install several large-scale 3D illuminated interactive sculptures, spelling out C-A-N-A-D-A-1-5-0, in celebration of the nation’s sesquicentennial.

“The Canada150 sculpture at Niagara Parks will quickly become an iconic gathering place, allowing for great memories and experiences to be created at Niagara Parks, specifically at Table Rock, located next to the world-renowned Horseshoe Falls,” stated Niagara Parks Chair, Janice Thomson. “This project and its goal also resonate with Niagara Parks’ overall Ontario150 campaign theme of Begin Here, signifying the importance of Niagara Parks as a natural, cultural and heritage gateway, enticing visitors to enjoy all that Canada, Ontario and Niagara have to offer.”

According to TIAC, the goal of the project is to maximize the tourism opportunity from the Canada 150 experience by using these public art installations to create a series of gathering places in provincial capitals, major urban centres and iconic locations. Canadians and tourists are invited to take pictures of these sites and share them on social media using the hashtag #3DCanada150. The installation of the Canada 150 sculpture at Table Rock Centre, and its spectacular location right at the brink of the mighty Horseshoe Falls, represents a fantastic opportunity for visitors to join in and document their Canada 150 celebrations with Niagara Parks.

The sculptures are constructed with an aluminum frame, aluminum cladding and a translucent polycarbonate front and back. The base is made from steel and weather-resistant plywood, clad in aluminum panels and the entire piece will contain approximately 396 metres (1 300 feet) of LED lights that will beautifully illuminate the installation. The structure will measure 1.82 m (6 feet) by 10.97 m (36 feet) and weigh up to approximately 4536 kg (10 000 lbs).
