The Niagara Parks Commission for the past ten years has carried out numerous prescribed burns (PB’s) on its property. These controlled burns are done to encourage the regeneration of native prairie grasses and plants that help to control invasive plant species.
These controlled burns began on April 14 and continue until nine sites have been treated. It is difficult to put an exact completion because burning depends upon weather and wind conditions.
On the drive into the NPC’s Legends on the Niagara Golf Course along the upper Niagara Parkway I spotted one of these controlled burns and took the accompanying photograph.
