In the summer of 1962, a summer festival began in nearby Niagara-on-the-Lake to celebrate plays inspired by the works of playwright George Bernard Shaw.

54 years later the festival continues to draw large crowds to three of their theatres. These theatres now offer plays not only by Shaw but also his contemporaries.

The festival opens this Saturday with a play, Alice in Wonderland based on the book by Lewis Carroll. The 2016 season continues until October 16th.

Niagara on the Lake is a 25 minute drive north from Niagara Falls along the Niagara Parkway. Sir Winston Churchill once described as, “The prettiest Sunday afternoon drive in the world” this parkway. He took the drive on a Saturday afternoon.
