Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit first collaborated on the release of the self-titled album Jason Isbell and The 400 Unit in 2009. In 2011, the collaboration continued with the release of Here We Rest. The track "Alabama Pines" was named Song of the Year at the 2012 Americana Music Awards. The Nashville Sound was released in 2017, winning the Grammy Award for Best Americana Album, with Isbell winning an additional Grammy Award for Best American Roots Song.

Greta Van Fleet is an American rock band from Frankenmuth, Michigan, formed in 2012. It consists of the Kiszka brothers: twins Josh (vocals) and Jake (guitar), Sam (bass guitar, keyboards), and Danny Wagner (drums). They were signed to Lava Records in March 2017 and a month later released their debut studio EP, Black Smoke Rising. Their debut single, “Highway Tune”, topped the Billboard US Mainstream Rock and Active Rock stations in September 2017 for four weeks in a row.
