Heather Bambrick & Friends Featuring “Broadsway”
Ironwood Cider House
Music Niagara is delighted to welcome acclaimed Canadian vocalist Heather Bambrick & Friends Featuring Julie Michels of Broadsway to close our Summer Jazz Series celebrating Women in Jazz.
JUNO and ECMA-nominated singer Heather Bambrick is known for her sparkling stage presence, remarkable vocal clarity, and joyful connection with audiences. Her concerts have been described as what happens when “Ella Fitzgerald meets Carol Burnett at a Newfoundland kitchen party,” blending world-class jazz vocals with warmth, humour, and irresistible musical storytelling.
Over the course of her celebrated career, Heather has collaborated with renowned artists including Fred Hersch, Guido Basso, Rob McConnell, Peter Appleyard, Phil Nimmons, Mike Murley, and Robi Botos, among many others. A founding member of both The Beehive Singers and Broadsway, she has performed throughout North America, England, France, Germany, and the Caribbean. Her voice can also be heard on film and television soundtracks including Murdoch Mysteries and the award-winning video game Cuphead. In addition to her performance career, Heather is one of Canada’s top voice actors and an award-winning broadcaster, having hosted programs on JAZZ.FM91 for more than 25 years.
Joining Heather is acclaimed vocalist Julie Michels, a founding member of Broadsway whose international career has taken her to prestigious festivals and venues across Europe, North America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Julie has performed at renowned events including the North Sea Jazz Festival, Glasgow Music Festival, Ottawa Jazz Festival, and Toronto Jazz Festival, and has collaborated with celebrated artists such as Don Braden, Robi Botos, Larnell Lewis, George Koller, and Kahil El’Zabar. Her rich, versatile voice and engaging stage presence have made her one of Canada’s most respected jazz vocalists.
Together, Heather and Julie will revisit some of the beloved Broadsway repertoire that audiences have come to love, bringing their signature blend of jazz, Broadway favourites, tight harmonies, humour, and musical storytelling to the Music Niagara stage.
While Broadsway's beloved Music Director Diane Leah is unable to join the performance due to health reasons, we are pleased to share that she is doing well. With Diane's full support, Heather Bambrick and Julie Michels—both founding members of Broadsway—have assembled an exceptional lineup of Canada's finest jazz musicians to ensure audiences enjoy an unforgettable evening of world-class jazz, Broadway favourites, outstanding musicianship, and musical storytelling.
Backing these outstanding vocalists is an all-star ensemble of some of Canada's finest jazz musicians:
Chase Sanborn (trumpet and flugelhorn) is an internationally respected performer, educator, and recording artist who has toured and performed with legends including Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, and Diana Krall. A graduate of both Berklee College of Music and the University of Toronto Jazz Studies Program, Ross has performed with Wynton Marsalis, Jim Cuddy, Jesse Cook, Emilie-Claire Barlow, and many others, while appearing on numerous JUNO-nominated and award-winning recordings.
