African Women Acting AWA is a pan-African, non-profit organization committed to advancing women’s issues and empowering artists through cultural initiatives. Our mission is to educate, train, and mentor Black women via production, presentation, volunteer opportunities, and participation in the AWA Festival. While our primary focus is on Black women, we embrace diverse communities, fostering cross-cultural collaborations among artists from various backgrounds. Our goal is to enhance public understanding and appreciation of both traditional and contemporary African arts, including music, film, spoken word, visual arts , and entrepreneurship, culminating in the annual AWA Festival. We aim to promote progress, inclusiveness, community engagement, and create a positive, lasting impact on artists, communities, and the cultural sector. Founded to uplift Black women and youth, AWA celebrates and preserves Africa’s rich artistic heritage, empowering marginalized voices and inspiring cultural exchange across the continent and beyond.
