One of Niagara Falls famous resident, John MacBain was honoured this past Friday by the City of Niagara Falls for his donations of $1 million dollars in 2006 to the MacBain Community Centre (named for his parents Al and Viola MacBain) and his 2010 pledge of $750,000 to the Family and Children’s Services of Niagara.

Long-time friend of the MacBain’s, city councillor and one time mayor Wayne Thomson presented Mr. MacBain with a newly designed key to the city of Niagara Falls. A section of the cities Millennium Trail between McLeod Road and Lundy’s Lane was also named in his honour.

The former city resident who now lives in Geneva, Switzerland amassed his fortune by founding Auto Trader magazine and selling it with other properties for $2 billion dollars in 2006.Since then his foundation has given $200 million in charitable donations around the world.
